Fluid Engine - the latest Squarespace Update
I gave a little teaser on my Instagram Stories
Did you see it? It was a public service announcement to let you know that there’s some super exciting news from Squarespace.
Since I’m a Squarespace Circle member (Squarespace’s web developer community) I get behind the scenes updates!
July launch
So the BIG news is that Squarespace have launched Fluid Engine - on July 7th - an all new platform which brings so many magical features to the party!
The main difference is no more spacer blocks! It’s a super easy drag and drop interface now, so it’s going to make life a breeze when it comes to moving blocks around your site like text and images. Hurrah!
What does it mean for you my friend?
All new trial sites from now will automatically begin using Fluid Engine. If you are on 7.1 version of Squarespace (that’s like me) they are gradually phasing in Fluid Engine. You will one day notice an upgrade box appearing and you can decide to switch over to Fluid Engine.
It’s important to know
If you decide to ‘upgrade’ a specific section of your site, you cannot reverse that decision and go back to the old version.
What should you do?
What should you do? There’s nothing for you to do at this stage, it’s just a decision for down the line and it’s always good to have all the information so that you are prepared. Hence my public service announcement.
Any pitfalls or things I should be concerned about
It’s not fully known yet, the impact of the switch to Fluid Engine. I’ve been informed that the recent launch won’t ‘break’ existing sites or any code. Phew! However it is possible that by deciding to switch over to Fluid Engine any code that was used during the design of your site may break, so I’ll let you know any updates when I have them. I’m right with you dreamers!
